Investment and Sector Preferences
Petra Capital Partners is a Nashville, TN based private equity firm founded in 1996, engaged in providing growth capital for companies located throughout the United States. The partners of Petra have invested more than $337 million in 76 high growth private companies over the past 20 years. We are currently investing out of our third fund, closed in March 2008, with $160 million of available capital.
We invest up to $10 million of our own capital per company. We are flexible in how we structure each investment to meet the needs of the owners and our own return objectives. We have invested in subordinated debt with warrants and equity securities. In addition to our own capital, Petra’s limited partners are capable of providing additional capital in support of our portfolio companies.
We are licensed as a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) by the U.S. Small Business Administration. We are committed to helping you succeed in growing your company and maximize value upon exit.
Investment and Sector Preferences
We focus our investment activity in the business services and healthcare services industries. Over time our partners have developed an expertise and in-depth understanding of service industries such as business process outsourcing, healthcare, professional services, information services, media and communications.
Service companies typically possess many of the qualities we look for in an investment including large and growing target markets, recurring revenue, low capital expenditures, and high returns on invested capital.
Furthermore, service companies often find securing senior debt challenging due to a lack of fixed assets. We are able to fill the gap in a service company’s capital structure with our ability to provide the right mix of subordinated debt and equity.
